Course details for Travel : National Award in Aviation Operations

Is this course for you?
If you wish to pursuer a career in aviation, then this is an ideal course for you. The programme covers a variety of work roles including passenger service agent, ramp handler and airport representative.

The course also includes either ‘Principles of Aviation First Aid’ or ‘Aviation Customer Service’ together with essential Key Skills development.

What do you need to get on the course?
Students must have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grades A-C or equivalent such as a BTEC 1st Diploma at Merit Level. If you have relevant industrial experience this will be considered.
You should be committed to a career in the Aviation Industry.
The costs of trips and field studies will vary, but you may be able to apply for a grant towards these costs. You will receive more information at the interview.

Full-time for 1 year.

What's the course about?
To succeed on this course students must achieve 6 units, which comprise:-
  • The Aviation Industry
  • Health, Safety & Security in the Aviation Industry
  • Meeting Customer Needs in the Aviation Industry
  • Air Travel Information
  • Handling Air Passengers
  • Preparation for Working in the Aviation Industry
  • In addition, all students will take additional qualifications including

  • The Principles of Aviation First Aid
  • Aviation Customer Service and Key Skills.

  • Is work experience a necessary part of the course?
    Students may have the opportunity to work within a customer service situation but a placement is not essential.
    How will you be assessed?
    All units are internally assessed through centre-devised assignments. Assessment methods are varied and include written reports, presentations, role play, case studies and practical tasks. The Awarding Body, Edexcel, will sample a range of assessments to ensure compliance with national standards.
    What qualification will you achieve?
    National Award in Aviation Operations Level 3.
    What can this course lead to?
    You will be able to progress into employment within the travel industry, or on to other courses such as: C&G Level 2 Diploma in Air Cabin Crew or to Higher Education such as a BTEC Higher National Diploma.
