What types of engineering programmes are offered?

The engineering department offers Higher National Certificate (HNC) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in Engineering, covering the following pathways:
1.Aeronautical Engineering
2.Mechanical Engineering
3.Electrical and Electronic Engineering

These courses are designed to prepare you for a range of technical and management careers in the field of engineering and are approved for progression routes leading to Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.

How are the programmes structured?
Each pathway is made up of common core units and additional specialist units, which provides employers and students with a high degree of choice to suit their needs. This flexibility has attracted many major regional employers supporting the career development of their employees.

For HNC courses, it is preferable that you are already employed within the industry. The HNC is typically completed over two years on a day-release basis. HNC year 1 takes place on Thursdays and year 2 on Tuesdays.

The HND is a full-time course over two years and both years sessions are scheduled over 3 days from Tuesday to Thursday.
For those wishing to progress from HNC to HND, there is a one-year top-up course.

What can I do with my qualification?
There are recognised career progression routes for both HNC and HND learners to the 2nd or 3rd year engineering degree courses, depending on the units chosen.

The delivery team currently includes three Chartered Engineers and one Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, all possessing considerable industrial experience.
