Course details for Sport : NVQ Level 2 Coaching, Teaching & Instruction - Association Football

Is this course for you?
If you wish a career in coaching or the football industry this is the course for you. The course offers both the theory and practical requirements to become a professional entry-level football coach. It is also useful if you wish to improve your knowledge and skills in coaching teams at junior level. You will complete a Level 1 FA coaching qualification as part of your course.
What do you need to get on the course?
You will be considered if you have experience within the industry or have an interest in football coaching and can demonstrate your suitability for the course by way of an interview. If you are a suitable candidate you may be given an unconditional offer for the course. Alternatively, you may be invited to an NVQ coaching session so that your potential tutors can get a realistic idea of your suitability for the course and you can also get a realistic feel for the course itself.
How long is the course?
16 hours per week over one year.
Evidence is gathered via practical assignments, football session planning and by observed coaching experience in local schools and at the college. Some coaching sessions may require you to be available outside of normal class times.
When you will be attending.
The course takes place for 36 weeks and students will be required to attend 4 days per week

What's the course about?
Students will:
Learn the background and theory of coaching at a variety of levels, from children to adults and including those people with a variety of disabilities. Analyse a full range of skills from goal keeping to shooting. Take part in practical sessions relating to coaching various ages, levels and disabilities.
Prepare and conduct coaching sessions.
Coach local school sessions and run local tournaments.
Deal with accidents and emergencies and complete a first aid course.
Learn to promote events and courses.
Opportunity to do the FA Level 1 course in term 1.
Is work experience a necessary part of the course?
Yes, all students are required to coach local school children organised through the course.
How will you be assessed?
Students will be assessed by:- Direct observation of coaching; portfolio of evidence e.g. session plans and reviews; underpinning knowledge.
What qualification will you achieve?
NVQ Level 2 Coaching, Teaching & Instruction (Association Football)
What can this course lead to?
Coaching with various organisations from independent coaching companies to local clubs. Soccer coaching abroad, particularly America, has many opportunities for either short or extended contracts. Level 3 course, e.g. National Diploma in Sport. Employment as an assistant coach. Successful candidates are also able to apply for FA Level 3 Courses (run by the FA).
First Aid qualification. Award in Coaching Studies qualification possible, CSLA opportunities.

Students will be required to purchase College Sports Kit and contribute towards a graduation/progress event held at the end of the academic year.
