    What's the course about?
The Design & Visual Arts Degree is a modular programme designed to offer students a three-year full-time intensive course of study on their chosen pathway specialism, whilst allowing the opportunity for creative integrity and individual freedom. This Degree course aims to develop versatile, resourceful graduates who are imaginative, individual and self-motivated, equipped with skills and knowledge for successful careers in the design and visual arts professions or related industries. Integration between specialisms is encouraged. So although students enter the course having chosen to specialise in one of the following pathways: • Graphic Design • Multimedia Design • Illustration or Textiles [for Fashion and Interiors] the cross fertilisation of ideas and practice between specialisms is positively encouraged. Each pathway offers modules that give direct practical experiences and an insight into the chosen specialism whilst encouraging the benefits of an interdisciplinary learning environment.
Modules included in the full programme are:
Level 1 - Critical studies, basic design, design skills and method, ideas generation, computer applications, applied design.
Level 2 - Technology and practice, critical studies two, applied design two, computer applications or craft process, plus two elective modules.
Level 3 - Professional practice, critical studies dissertation, design in context, major project.

IllustrationWithin a supportive, positive and encouraging atmosphere, the key members of staff on the illustration pathway aim to equip students with a broad range of both practical and theory-based skills which are current and appropriate to contemporary illustrative practice. We are a small, dedicated, enthusiastic team who between us have a range of industry experience in the areas of illustration and graphic design. As such, we are focused on teaching and learning rather than research. The pathway has strong links with industry in terms of high profile visiting lecturers to ensure that you get current design thinking and ideas and a relevant ‘up to date’ insight into the industry.
The pathway also supports graduates via a college-backed initiative called ‘Giant’ which acts as an artist’s agent, enabling students to bridge the gap between education and the commercial world of design in a supportive atmosphere, a sort of ‘incubator’.
    Visit their website at www.giantillustration.com.
