The care and education of young children is a rapidly expanding area, with an increasing variety of exciting career opportunities. The Centre for Childhood Studies offers a range of HE provision, catering for people new to the field of childcare as well as plenty of professional development opportunities for those already working in early years settings.
We run a full and part time degree in Early Childhood Studies, awarded by Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU).
In addition, we run two foundation degrees for experienced practitioners, both awarded by LJMU. The Foundation Degree Senior Practitioner, endorsed by the government’s Department for Education and Skills, is for people working in early years, and the Foundation Degree Working with Children and Young People is for people working with children up to the age of 16.
The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Standards (HLTA) are incorporated into both foundation degrees, and you will have the opportunity to prepared for and be assessed against HLTA standards if you so wish.
Our courses will help you to develop your professional skills and provide you with theoretical knowledge, helping you to make the links between current research, child development theory and early years practice. Our courses are taught in small groups where effective positive relationships are built both within the group and between students and staff in a very supportive environment.
We are well qualified and come from a range of early years disciplines which allows us to promote a varied approach to working with children. We have established close links with local and regional employers, including Sure Start units, schools, nurseries, etc., thus ensuring that our students will be well placed when it comes to gaining employment in an increasingly competitive market.
Whatever your ambitions and aspirations, we’re happy to welcome you here at Stockport College and help you along the road to success.
