Britain’s premier beauty show returned this year, seeing hundreds of talented students travelling to the NEC in Birmingham to compete on a national platform. The Beauty UK Show is the largest beauty trade show outside of London. With four shows under one roof, visitors not only have the opportunity to see the latest Spring / Summer launches in beauty, nails, tanning, hair and complementary therapies, but also have the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and creativity within the field.
Boasting the ‘best of the best’ of beauty professionals in the UK, the competition is said to be fierce, a challenge in which Stockport College student Mackenzie Clarke took in her stride. Enrolled on the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services, Mackenzie has been said to have a ‘creative approach’ and ‘real aptitude for technical training’ by lectures within the Hair and Beauty Department.
During the Beauty UK Show Mackenzie entered four competitions within the UK Nail Tech section. A spokesperson from Beauty UK said that ‘the Nail Tech competition looks to recognise the talent of nail technicians from across the UK. With a number of categories, it allows students and industry professionals to really show us the standard of talent and admiration for our industry that is out there’.
Mackenzie placed first in both practical categories on the day, followed by a second place victory for the ‘top tech photographic’ category, and third for the ‘Boxed Nail Art’ category. Having accumulated a number of points throughout the competition Mackenzie was awarded UK Student Nail Tech of 2018. The coveted title of Student Nail Tech of the Year was previously held by former Stockport College student Elise Wilson.
