We want to offer you the opportunity to gain so much more than your chosen qualification alone. That’s why we provide an enrichment programme to make things fun, challenging and help you develop new skills.

Through enrichment, you’ll be given the chance to learn a variety of new and interesting skills which will aid you when applying for jobs or places on Further or Higher Education courses.

Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award

‘The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is the worlds’ leading youth engagement award. In a recent survey of universities and employers, the DofE ranked highest in a list of extra-curricular activities that they would like to see on someone’s personal statement or C.V.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award helps to transform young peoples’ lives by encouraging them to take part in volunteering, physical and skill activities as well as an expedition. The award can be done alongside a learners current study programme with a small amount of weekly input and big rewards.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Stockport College is managed by Dave Heaton. Dave has a number of years experience of working on DofE programmes and is a qualified Mountain Leader.

This year the college will be running the Bronze and Silver level awards with options to continue onto the Gold award in the future. Alongside the DofE, students will gain practical skills in camp craft and hill walking as well as receiving a National Navigation Award.’

Volunteering opportunities

We offer a range of volunteering opportunities at Stockport College to enhance your CV, improve a UCAS or job application and to show employees your range of social skills.

Student Council

Becoming a student representative is a fantastic way for you to become more involved in decision making at the college. Our team really value the feedback they receive from learners and in recent years the feedback from the Student Council has contributed to the college’s policies on Teaching and Learning, Assessment and Attendance and Punctuality. All Representatives who attend at least three student council meetings in a year receive a certificate to show to future employers.

Student Ambassadors

Every year the college recruits Student Ambassadors to help promote the college at key events and to become role models to inspire current and prospective learners. The Student Ambassador role is primarily to help you grow with confidence and interact with others, helping your inter-personal skills. The role is not paid but a modest financial reward is available for supporting and helping the College.
