How the Access Ability Support Team can help you to achieve success....
Stockport College and the Access Ability (Disability) Support Team are committed to achieving equality of opportunity for all people who study here. We have a dedicated team of staff with expertise who can advise potential students on a wide range of educational opportunities.
We offer:-
- advice and support for students with disabilities.
- a free service for ALL students (full-time, part-time, day release and flexible learning courses).
- flexible sessions to fit in with your timetable.
- a learning programme to suit your needs, you bring your own work and learn at your own pace.
- software packages available for Maths, English, Study Skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Dyslexia and other disabilities.
- drop-in facilities or you can agree a time with the tutor.
We offer free support for students with:-
Dyslexia, learning difficulties, medical conditions, physical conditions, visual impairment, deaf/hard of hearing and mental health.
- Advice or individual assessment
- Discussion of your study needs
- Arranging exam considerations where necessary
- Information sessions for Higher Education students on claiming Disabled Students Allowance
- Study+
We offer free support in Study+. These are situated near the Library + at Town Centre and at the Heaton Moor Campus.
Support is available for:

- Planning and structuring assignments
- Essay writing
- Developing your reading skills
- Improving your punctuation, grammar and spelling skills
- Using the latest software packages
Study Skills
- Managing your study time effectively

- Using study skills software packages
Maths
- Basic Maths
- Pre GCSE and NVQ level 1
- GCSE and GNVQ (intermediate and advanced)
- Higher level Maths - A level, HNC, HND
- The use of computer software available at all levels
- GCSE revision sessions
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
If your first language is not English we can help develop the language skills you will need for your course. We can help you with:-
- English grammar and usage
- Technical and specialist language
- Reading and understanding texts
